Our Story
A craft brand,
built by two siblings
on Hwy 36.
2K stands for the two Kuipers, Anika and Sam. We opened 2K Craft Co. in 2023, three months after Minnesota legalized adult-use cannabis. The plan was simple, and it hasn't changed: treat cannabis the way good brewers treat beer.
We started with the room.
Before we wrote a single line of a business plan, we found the building. An old auto-body shop on Hwy 36, big front windows, concrete floors, and a back room with a freight door that opened onto a gravel lot. Anika said, "This is the lounge." Sam said, "Where do we put the menu?"
We spent eight months stripping it back, oak from a barn in Marine on St. Croix for the bar, Sherwin gunmetal on the walls, a sound system loud enough to actually use. We wanted a place that felt like somewhere, not anywhere.
Then the growers.
Anika spent the first six months driving. Foley. Cloquet. Northfield. Albert Lea. Cannabis legalization in Minnesota happened fast, and a lot of the early product was, frankly, not good. We weren't going to put it on our wall.
We landed on six growers and one extractor. They're all licensed, all in-state, and all happy to show up at the shop on a Saturday and talk to whoever's at the bar. If you've ever bought flower without knowing who grew it, you'll understand why this matters.
Then the soda.
Sam ran beverage at a North Loop bar for nine years. He'd been quietly making infused seltzers in his garage since 2021. When we opened, the house line was four flavors. Now it's seven, on draft and in four-packs, brewed under license at a small co-packer in St. Paul.
Five milligrams, real fruit, clean finish. The point is to make a drink you'd reach for at 4pm on a patio, with or without THC in it.
04, The principles
How we run the shop.
-
i
Know the grower.
Every flower SKU lists the cultivator and harvest date. If we can't tell you who grew it, we won't sell it.
-
ii
Lab results, visible.
COAs for every batch are linked on the menu. No squinting at QR codes in 6-point type.
-
iii
No upsell theater.
Our budtenders are paid on salary, not commission. The recommendation is the right one for you, not the one with the best margin.
-
iv
Low-dose first.
Our beverages cap at 5mg. We'll sell you 100mg gummies, but we won't pretend they're a starting point.
05, The two Kuipers
Anika & Sam.
Anika spent twelve years in retail buying for a Twin Cities specialty grocery. Sam ran beverage programs at two of the better bars in the North Loop. Neither of us came from cannabis. We came from food and drink, and we ran a shop the way we wished one would be run.
The store is open six days a week, and one of us is in it almost every day. Come say hi.
Want the long version?
Stop in any Saturday. Anika's usually at the front, Sam's behind the bar.
